Polo in the Park is Ramsey Crookall's private client day, held each May at the Ballacooiley Equestrian Estate in Ballaugh, world-class polo fields with views across the Manx countryside to Snaefell. Over 600 guests, jazz on the lawn, classics from the Manx Classic Car Club, and two Triskelion Polo Club teams contesting the Crookall Cup. Jonathan covers the action on the field and the crowd in the marquee both.

Global Citizen Festival

The Global Citizen Festival brings the world's biggest artists and advocates together to campaign for the end of extreme poverty. Commissioned by Johnson & Johnson, a founding partner of the movement, Jonathan covered the festival across the crowd, the stage and the volunteer teams driving the DREAMS and HIV-awareness initiatives on the ground. Oie Voaldyn

Oie Voaldyn, the Manx May Day Eve fire festival, fills Peel beach at dusk, beneath the floodlit walls of Peel Castle. Drummers, torch-bearers and towering puppets gather to mark the turning of the season, the old Celtic fire-festival of Beltane reimagined for the Isle of Man. Jonathan shoots it as the light goes: silhouettes against the last of the sky, faces lit by flame, a giant raven taking wing over the crowd.

Hilton Arts Festival

Held each September on the grounds of Hilton College in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, the Hilton Arts Festival is the largest festival of its kind in KZN: three days of theatre, live music, dance, comedy, craft and a major fine-art exhibition. Jonathan has covered it across stages, streets and exhibition tents, from string quartets in candlelit halls to street performers stopping traffic outside Hilton College itself.

Color Run

The Happiest 5K on the Planet brought its colour-powder chaos to Pietermaritzburg, with runners of every age finishing the route doused head to toe at the colour stations along the way. A fun run rather than a race, it gave Jonathan a different kind of brief: catch the joy in motion, mid-throw, mid-laugh, before the next cloud of powder lands.
